It is intended that this site will be a source of information first and foremost for the people of Lafayette County. My official title is Clerk of the County Commission. This office is responsible for all County Elections, Liquor License, Auctioneer License and Notaries. As always, it is a pleasure and a privilege to serve the citizens of Lafayette County.
Voter Registration Information
Registration Qualifications
- 18 Years of age by Election Day
- US Citizen
- Lafayette County Resident
Where to Register to Vote
Lafayette County residents can register to vote:
- At the County Clerk's Office
- At the City Hall in most of our county cities
- At any Department of Motor Vehicles office, or state agency providing a service to the public (WIC, Social Services, etc)
No person shall be entitled to vote:
- While confined under a sentence of imprisonment;
- While on probation or parole after the conviction of a felony
- After conviction of a felony or misdemeanor connected with voting or the right of suffrage
Absentee Voting
County residents who are not able to go to their polling place on Election Day may vote absentee beginning six weeks prior to an election.
Absentee voters must provide one of the following reasons for voting absentee:
- Absence on Election Day from the jurisdiction of the election authority in which such voter is registered to vote;
- Incapacity or confinement due to illness or physical disability, including a person who is primarily responsible for the physical care of a person who is incapacitated or confined due to illness or disability;
- Religious belief or practice;
- Employment as an election authority, as a member of an election authority, or by an election authority at a location other than such voter's polling place;
- Incarceration, provided all qualifications for voting are retained.
Voters can request absentee ballots from the County Clerk's Office in person at the County Courthouse, 1001 Main, Lexington, MO, by fax, 660-259-6109, or by mail (if time allows) to the same address as above. After filling out the form, absentee ballot requests should be returned to the County Clerk's Office by fax or by mail (if time allows). Relatives within the first degree (parents and children) may complete an absentee ballot application, in person, on behalf of the voter who wishes to vote absentee.

Mail in or faxed absentee ballot requests must be received by the election authority no later than the 5:00 p.m. on the Wednesday prior to any election. Voters can vote by absentee in the office of the local election authority until 5:00 p.m. the night before the election.

The final date for new party and independent candidates to submit their petitions to the Secretary of State is 5:00 p.m., July 28, 2008. Independent candidates for county offices and those wishing to form a new party within a county must submit their petition to the local election authority (county clerk or election board) by 5:00 p.m., July 28, 2008. Liquor License
Businesses selling alcohol within the city limits must first apply for a City liquor license.
All businesses selling alcohol must then apply for a State Liquor License with the Missouri Division of Liquor Control.
To be in compliance with State Statute's, any business possessing a State Liquor License to sell liquor must also be granted a County Liquor License prior to selling alcohol. Applicant must have paid their County Real & Personal Taxes to be eligible for a County license.
First time applicants MUST come to the County Clerk's Office in person, bringing their State License and Fee to apply.
Auctioneer License
An application for Auctioneer License may be obtained by visiting the County Clerk's Office. You will receive your license when you have filled out the application and paid your license fee.
