It is intended that this site will be a source of information first and foremost for the people of Lafayette County.
Voter ID-All voters must show acceptable identification to the election judges. All previously acceptable forms of identification will be acceptable on November 3rd…Voter Identification Card, Missouri Drivers or Non-Drivers License, Passport, United States Government ID, university, college or technical school ID, current utility bill, bank statement, or paycheck.
The last day to register to vote for the November election was October 7th, 2009. Voter registration cards for new registrants have been mailed.
Avoid Long Lines-As always, voters can help avoid lines at the polls in several ways.
*Have identification ready as you enter the polling location
*Avoid peak times. These times are: 6:00-8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 5:00-7:00 p.m.
*Be Prepared. Study the ballots that are printed in the newspapers this week and know how you intend to vote on each candidate and issue prior to entering the polls. We expect record turnouts, so voter preparation is extremely important in this historic election.
Connect the Arrows-Our new system now requires that the voter connect the arrows rather than fill in the ovals. The arrows do not need to be blackened, just completely connected.
No Straight Ticket Voting-In 2006, the Missouri General Assembly removed from the election laws of the State of Missouri, the option to vote a straight ticket. Voters must complete the arrow beside the name of each candidate they wish to cast a vote for. Voters are not required to vote on every race and issue in order for their ballot to be counted. Every arrow completed will be counted even if some arrows are left unmarked.
Absentee Voting- Absentee ballots may be voted in the Office of the County Clerk until 5:00 p.m. Monday November 2nd. The office is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for absentee voting as well as from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 31st. Individuals may request absentee ballots by mail by contacting the office at 660-259-4315. The last day to request a ballot by mail is October 28th.
Election Day-The polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 3rd. Please exercise your right to vote.

Where to Register to Vote
Lafayette County residents can register to vote:
- At the County Clerk's Office
- At the City Hall in most of our county cities
- At any Department of Motor Vehicles office, or state agency providing a service to the public (WIC, Social Services, etc)
No person shall be entitled to vote:
- While confined under a sentence of imprisonment;
- While on probation or parole after the conviction of a felony
- After conviction of a felony or misdemeanor connected with voting or the right of suffrage
Absentee Voting
County residents who are not able to go to their polling place on Election Day may vote absentee beginning six weeks prior to an election.
Absentee voters must provide one of the following reasons for voting absentee:
- Absence on Election Day from the jurisdiction of the election authority in which such voter is registered to vote;
- Incapacity or confinement due to illness or physical disability, including a person who is primarily responsible for the physical care of a person who is incapacitated or confined due to illness or disability;
- Religious belief or practice;
- Employment as an election authority, as a member of an election authority, or by an election authority at a location other than such voter's polling place;
- Incarceration, provided all qualifications for voting are retained.
Voters can request absentee ballots from the County Clerk's Office in person at the County Courthouse, 1001 Main, Lexington, MO, by fax, 660-259-6109, or by mail (if time allows) to the same address as above. After filling out the form, absentee ballot requests should be returned to the County Clerk's Office by fax or by mail (if time allows). Relatives within the first degree (parents and children) may complete an absentee ballot application, in person, on behalf of the voter who wishes to vote absentee.

Mail in or faxed absentee ballot requests must be received by the election authority no later than the 5:00 p.m. on the Wednesday prior to any election. Voters can vote by absentee in the office of the local election authority until 5:00 p.m. the night before the election.

Liquor License
Businesses selling alcohol within the city limits must first apply for a City liquor license.
All businesses selling alcohol must then apply for a State Liquor License with the Missouri Division of Liquor Control.
To be in compliance with State Statute's, any business possessing a State Liquor License to sell liquor must also be granted a County Liquor License prior to selling alcohol. Applicant must have paid their County Real & Personal Taxes to be eligible for a County license.
First time applicants MUST come to the County Clerk's Office in person, bringing their State License and Fee to apply.
Auctioneer License
An application for Auctioneer License may be obtained by visiting the County Clerk's Office. You will receive your license when you have filled out the application and paid your license fee.
